Description

This reference design demonstrates a method to control a continuous conduction mode (CCM) Totem pole power factor correction converter (PFC) using a C2000™ TMS320F280039C real-time MCU.

This design is bidirectional and works as inverter in grid connected (current controlled) mode. The converter is designed to support a maximum input current of 16-ARMS with peak power of 3.6 kW. The LMG3522 top-side cooled GaN device with integrated driver and protection enables higher efficiency while reduces power supply size and complexity. In addintional, the design also supports adaptive dead time for efficiency improvements, input cap compensation scheme for improved power factor at light loads, and non-linear voltage loop to reduce voltage spikes under transient in PFC mode.

The F28003x C2000™ real-time MCU is used for all the advanced controls including re-rush current control, baby boost operation during an AC drop out event, e-metering, and communication between PFC and house-keeping controller.

Compared with PMP23069, the EVM hardware has been redesigned to feature a AMC1306 alongside of hall sensor for better current sensing.
